Too Busy to Slow Down: When Being Tough Gets in the Way
By Andy Culbertson, NBC-HWC, CHWC
You built your identity on being tough. On optimizing. On out-working everyone.
It worked. It built a successful life.
But now, that same identity is getting in your way. The plate is overloaded, you're holding your breath, and it has become unsustainable. You are trying to figure it out. But, you're too busy to slow down.
Signs you are too busy to slow down
- You eat lunch at your desk and keep working (or don't eat).
- You multitask and often lose your train of thought.
- The phone buzz and email chime are not things you notice anymore.
- The day is a blur with no time between meetings and urgent fires to plan.
- You are afraid that someone on your team will get the credit if you don't jump.
I don't fix you. I don't deliver generic relief.
Let's sit down, clear the noise, and figure out how to take the next step.
What happens in the first 10 minutes
During the first 10 minutes of our session, we connect. We set the foundation of what we will cover. Whether career, team, leadership, communication, or something else, we clear your mind. Unpacking what's been going on. Sometimes what you'd like to achieve is top of mind. Other times we'll explore. Within the first 10 minutes, though, we will establish a direction before we go any deeper into the session.
I coach driven people who feel scattered. Business or sports.
And between sessions, you practice.
