Performance is usually seen as outcome-driven. It is what many people are looking for. Easier to see than well-being. Measurable growth. Metrics. Tracking actions against expected results. Doing your job well. Supporting the team. Improving.

In sports, performance means turning physical and mental preparation into competitive wins.
In business, performance means meeting organizational targets through efficient execution.

Right or wrong, I am competitive. And I like helping others succeed.
That's the performance side of my practice.
Yes to winning. Yes to results. Yes to seeing outcomes, growth.
I support leaders and teammates with this competitive mindset.

I also know competition can be a trap.
It can lead to selfishness, holding back, criticizing others, pride, comparison, and many other less desirable traits.

So, I add well-being to the mix. Because without the humans, performance does not matter.

I had a leader tell me they were making a note that I called them empathetic. It is exactly what they had worked their entire career to eliminate. They would never call a male leader empathetic or sensitive.

In another session, I had a longtime client move teams. Their metrics were lagging. It made them feel incompetent. They are a high-achiever. A fast learner. The outside feedback was supportive. The internal narrative was critical. That gap is where well-being comes in.

Well-being signals care. Kindness. Understanding. Human. From my training at Anthropedia, well-being means being happy, healthy, creative, full of vitality, and satisfied with life.

When we add well-being to performance, we check the direction, the tools, the intention, the satisfaction, the joy.
This fuels continuous growth.

If you win, but miss the well-being. What's the point?
If your organization is number one, but steps on number two to get there. Is it worth it?

Performance + well-being can be confusing and challenging.
That's where coaching comes in. Adding an outside perspective.
Someone who knows the skill and art of meeting you where you are right now.
Not only listening, but also reframing and adding.

Where are you headed? How will you get there? Who is with you?

I'm not saying either performance or well-being. I'm saying yes to both.
